As keen golfers, we at the Bruce have sampled some of the local courses and in our experience the pick of the courses are as follows:
Newton Stewart - A great welcome, hilly to start, with stunning views and a tricky course. Very close to the Hotel and well worth a visit.
Portpatrick Dunskey - Another great welcome and stunning scenery with the cliffs and ocean. The course presents a very good challenge, especially on a windy day. Steak baguettes in the Clubhouse afterwards are a must have! About 25 miles from the Hotel and well worth the drive.
Kirkcudbright - A magical location again, good brief from the starter (including helpful hints), woodland type course and hilly, but at the top you can see for miles and again the views alone are worth the visit !!
A tricky course with some deceptive uphill and downhill shots. 20 miles from the Hotel.
Brighouse Bay - Raw in the wind, but an excellent course in splendid condition. Beware of the hares when you hit it in the rough! 20 miles from the Hotel.
Girvan - A warm welcome at the clubhouse awaits you! A delightful golf course featuring 8 holes of links and 10 of Parkland! The course is very short but, with the wind off the beach, deceptively tricky. Some of the par 3's are well nigh impossible to reach but equally with a following wind the shorter par 4's offer a tempting proposition to drive. The all important 19th offers a wide range of drinks and a competitive pool table!
All of the above courses offered us discounted rates and are excellent value. Ask at the clubhouses about the hire of buggies if you are not as fit as you could be!!
