As keen golfers, we at the Bruce have sampled some of the local courses and in our experience the pick of the courses are as follows:
Newton Stewart, great welcome, hilly to start with stunning views and a tricky course. Very close to the Hotel and well worth a visit.
Dunskey (Portpatrick), another great welcome, stunning scenery with the cliffs and ocean, a very good challenge, very hard on a windy day, Steak baguettes in the Clubhouse afterwards a must have! About 25 miles from the Hotel and well worth the drive.
Kirkcudbright, magical location again, good brief from the starter (including helpful hints), woodland type course and hilly but at the top you can see for miles and again the views are worth the visit alone!!
Tricky course with some deceptive uphill and downhill shots. 20 miles from the Hotel.
Brighouse Bay, raw in the wind, excellent course, splendid condition, 20 miles from the Hotel, beware of the Hares when you hit it in the rough!
All of the above courses offered us discounted rates and are excellent value. Ask at the clubhouses about the hire of buggies if you are not as fit as you should be!!
